Future of Indian cricket is bright : Kallicharran

RUDRAPUR: Former West Indies captain and batting great Alvin Isaac Kallicharran said that he feels at home in India. While he
ranked Indian cricket team as the best with Australia and South Africa, claiming that these teams have performed well
consistently not only at home but away too. Kallicharran called Indian captain Virat Kohli a great batsman with tremendous
consistency, but refused to compare him with all-time great Vivian Richards, another former captain of West Indies. Kallicharran
was on a short visit to Rudrapur on Saturday to meet a few family friends.

The 68-year old legendary cricketer had come to Pilibhit in UP as chief guest of Inderjeet Singh Memorial State Cricket
Tournament. He spared couple of hours at the visa consultancy office owned by organisers of the tournament, located at
Kashipur road in Rudrapur. Talking to media, Kallicharran said he never misses chance to come to India where cricket is a
religion. “I am rooted into this soil as my ancestors hail from northern India. I grew up in cane and sugar fields of Guyana and
also playing street cricket. At 14, i was spotted by selectors at city level and what followed is history”.
Remembering the glorious past of the Caribbean team, Kallicharran said, “I was a member of the Word Cup winning West Indies
team in 1975 and 1979 and that team ruled the world cricket. Things at present are certainly not going good, but i am very
hopeful that the West Indies players will bounce back and team will come on a winning streak soon”.

Talking about the men in blue, Kallicharran said, “Indian team under the leadership of Virat Kohli seems invincible. This team
has a tough bench strength and with Indian under-19 cricket team winning the world cup, future of Indian cricket is very bright”.
